Webinar previews GreenPort Congress decarbonisation

GreenPort Congress is bringing together port, technology, policy and finance leaders for a live online discussion examining how ports can deliver decarbonisation goals while protecting operational performance and commercial viability.

The free webinar, running Monday 7 September from 15:00–15:45 BST, will explore the practical realities of sustainable investment, including infrastructure readiness, changing energy demands, commercial risks and opportunities, future fuels, electrification and shore power.

The session will also consider how environmental priorities, including water-quality improvements, can be integrated into operational decision-making, alongside lessons from ports navigating regulatory, technical and financial change.

Speakers are Mike Sellers, port director, Portsmouth International Port; Tim Verhoeven, senior policy advisor – Sustainable Development, ESPO; Ekaitz López Amurrio, chief financial officer and European funds coordinator, Bilbao Port; Chris Poyner, head of Shore Power, ABB Marine and Ports, and board member, EOPSA; and Dr Mark van der Veen, director, Graduate School of Business, Amsterdam Business School.

The discussion will preview key themes for GreenPort Congress 2026, taking place at Portsmouth International Port from 7–9 October 2026, where the challenges and opportunities surrounding sustainable port investment will be explored in greater depth.
