Portable shore power solution win
Ballard Power Systems and CS electric have won an award for their air pollutant and CO2 emissions reducing solution.
Winner of the Existing Solutions category in the ZeroEmission@Berth Innovation Competition, the solution comprises Ballard’s FCwave fuel cell module along with CS electric’s ECOPAC Converter and is based on a portable container solution developed for the Port of Esbjerg in Denmark.
“Our approach was to leverage proven zero emission fuel cell technology in a new environment – ports – as they transition to greener operations,” said Thomas Therkild Petersen, product line manager marine at Ballard.
Gert Andersen, senior sales manager at CS electric, said that the solution could be scaled quickly giving it great potential for ports.
”As a great benefit, our solution is portable, which means that the plant can be moved to where it is needed. Therefore, this offers a huge flexibility for the port compared to the traditional shore power solutions,” he said
The ZeroEmission@Berth Innovation Competition is run by the nine largest German seaports and awards innovative alternatives for ships at port, which can also contribute to reducing emissions from vessels at sea.
