Pilot units for FRSU LNG terminal

Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure has teamed up with Höegh LNG to supply pilot units for a new floating liquefied natural gas terminal in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.

Trelleborg provides SafePilot Offshore solutions for German's First LNG Terminal

The first-of-its-kind floating storage and regasification unit (FRSU) LNG terminal was officially commissioned in December 2022 following a ten-month construction period.

Trelleborg will supply its CAT MAX Portable Pilot Units (PPU) and SafePilot Control Unit, which combines the functions of a vessel positioning system (VPS) with a berthing aid system.

“Our SafePilot Offshore solutions are modular in design, so transitioning to these systems is extremely easy and seamless,” said Richard Hepworth, president of Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure.

“SafePilot software configurations are also modified according to our client’s specific requirements, making them highly reliable and effective.”

In combination with the CAT MAX PPU on LNG carriers and support vessels, the VPS will provide 360-degree visibility and 6-axis monitoring of all floating assets and serve as a joined-up monitoring system for pilots, tugs, and FSRU.

It allows operators to analyse the approach, drift, alignment and distance between assets during berthing, ship-to-ship transfers, and buoy loading and unloading.
