K Line biodiesel fuel success
K Line Port Service Co. has completed a successful test voyage using next-generation biodiesel fuel.
On 10 May the tugboat Aihomaru completed its voyage in Nagoya Port in Japan using fuel made from waste cooking oil supplied by Toyotsu Energy Corporation. The fuel was bunkered ship-to-ship.
Biodiesel fuel is carbon neutral as defined in the IPCC guidelines and can be used without changing the specifications of existing marine diesel engines by mixed combustion with heavy fuel oil.
In its Environmental Vision 2050 – Blue Seas for the Future guidelines, K Line Group aims to halve CO2 emissions by 2030 compared with 2008 figures, exceeding the IMO’s 40% target.
The group aims to fully decarbonise by 2050.
