40MW UK green H2 project unveiled

Named Gowy Green Hydrogen after the nearby River Gowy, the plant will provide clean hydrogen to local industries, helping reduce carbon emissions and supporting job creation in the region. This project aligns with the UK’s goal of reaching 10GW of low-carbon hydrogen capacity by 2030.

Feasibility studies for the project have been completed, and planning underway, with a final investment decision expected after a 2025 planning application. The facility is set to begin construction by 2028.

EET Hydrogen is also progressing with its larger blue hydrogen projects, including the 350MW HPP1 and 1GW HPP2. Chief executive Joe Seifert emphasised partnerships with potential customers like Tata Chemicals and ESB Carrington.

Despite setbacks earlier this year, when SSE cancelled two green hydrogen projects owing to funding issues, the company remains committed to green hydrogen.

Gowy Green Hydrogen is part of its long-term strategy to support decarbonisation and sustainable energy solutions in the UK.
