Apapa crane tragedy kills four
A fatal dockworker tragedy at an Apapa port terminal has turned thespotlight on to concessionnaire ENL Consortium.
A faulty crane crushed three dockworkers to death at the terminal on Sunday, and a fourth docker was killed by an ambulance, according to local reports.
Fellow ENL dockers turned to violent protest after the tragic incidents, claiming a lack of safety equipment and benefits. The dockers reportedly attacked ENL officers and properties, vandalised office equipment and cars, bringing business to a halt.
The commissioner of the police port authority J Uzuagbunam described the incident as a “sad accident”.
