APM not eyeing Australian ports
AP Moller-Maersk subsidiary APM Terminals has denied recent New Zealand media speculation it is actively planning to buy port terminals in either that country or Australia.
Although APM Terminals Singaporebased vice-president Carl Jensen says his company is constantly reviewing investment opportunities throughout the world,he says there are currently “no concrete opportunities”in Australasia.
Several local port companies thought to have been possible targets have also quashed the rumours. Speculation had also arisen that the rumoured acquisition might have served Maersk Line in pressuring Ports of Auckland to resolve its recent congestion issues.However,the shipping company’s New Zealand managing director Tony Gibson, has since praised the port company’s recent endeavours to address the issue and says performance levels were now “back to normal”.
