The Australian government has approved foreign investment for the third coal terminal at the port of Newcastle.
A 33m tonnes per annum terminal is to be built adjacent to the existing Kooragang Island terminal, with building work commencing in 2009.The development includes new shiploaders, an extension of existing rail lines and new stockpiles.
The approval comes with more than 90 conditions, mostly environmental restrictions.
