APM paves the way

APM Terminals is investigating the use of crossover technology from major international airports to help manage the paved areas of terminals.

Geographic Information System technology will be combined with new software to create a Pavement Management System (PMS) that could significantly alter container terminal operating and maintenance procedures world-wide.

APM will begin a year long initial testing at its Zeebrugge facility after Danish engineering firm Ramboll installs the system in place.

If it provides the significant benefits it promises, then it could be rolled out over APM’s 1,800 hectares of paved areas, which account for 9.5% of global paved terminal surfaces.
