Barloworld gets port centric
UK materials handling supplier, Barloworld, has extended its range of solutions to ports by offering free advice to help reduce costs as volumes grow.
Rising fuel costs and EU emission regulations are affecting the use of container handling equipment, leading to a huge need to improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
For maximum efficiency, containers need to be unloaded close to the port so that empty containers can be returned straight to the exporting berth optimising both port centric picking and packing operations.
Mike Parkin, ports and terminals sales manager for Barloworld Handling, said to Port Strategy: “An important factor to consider when looking to reduce an operation’s carbon footprint is equipment selection.”
He added: “It is of course important to select a truck that is suited to the application, but operators now have the option to select tough trucks that also deliver low emissions.”
The company is offering ports and terminals a comprehansive site survey of any operation’s material handling needs without the need for any investment to be made.
