ADPC addresses supply chain
During the World Port and Trade Summit 2013 this week, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to reduce road tariffs was signed between Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) and Agility Abu Dhabi, a regional freight and logistics company.
The terms of the agreement will see Agility provide road freight for containers to and from Khalifa port and the whole of Abu Dhabi. And a larger chunk of business means reduced costs for the operator.
The new rate of AE$800 per truck represents a significant 33.3% reduction on previous tariffs.
Tackling the issue of costs in the supply chain is hot on ADPC’s agenda. Mohamed Al Shamisi, EVP Ports, ADPC, said: “Developing the most cost effective infrastructure and delivery is crucial to maintaining and supporting a healthy supply chain.”
He described the MoU as being “a clear recognition between two key parties in that chain of the advantages of both increasing efficiency and managing cost.”
The terms of the agreement will see Agility provide road freight for container and other cargo for pick-up to and from Khalifa Port and across Abu Dhabi.
But this is only part of ADPC’s wider plan to get a better deal for customers. The operator signed another MoU this week with Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) and several government agencies to help speed up port transactions using a collective “Ports Community System”. The system aims to cut down the high number of man hours allocated to import and export procedures and reduce the risk of human error.
