Gujurat port project dropped by L&T
Plans to develop a new port in Kacchigadh, near Gujarat, India, have been scrapped over environmental reasons, according to local media ‘Live Mint’.
India’s engineering and construction company, Larsen and Tourbo (L&T) were set to build the multi-purpose port, as well as a 2,000MW coal-based power project, but it’s understood the company has written to the government to withdraw its plans.
Apparently, Gujarat Ecology Commission (GEC) was appointed to carry out the environmental impact assessment, but the presence of corals and mangroves put a stop to the development.
Elsewhere, L&T is understood to be in talks with Adani Group to sell its stake in the Kattupalli International Container Terminal near Chennai. L&T is now said to want to exit the terminal and talks are at an advanced stage.
L&T has been approached for comment.
