Darwin commits to US$18.5m development
Infrastructure investments are being planned for the Port of Darwin that will expand its reefer, general cargo and cruise ship capability.
A total of A$25m (US$18.5m) is mapped out under the Port Development Plan 2016.
Both current and planned projects will benefit from investments, including current work being done to expand the reefer park at East Arm Wharf, which will see the number of reefer points increase from 50 to 200. Potential exists to expand this to 1000 as required.
A hardstanding area adjacent to the main quay line at the East Arm Wharf is also being developed.
Other plans include a quay line and container park expansion, and investment in more facilities for cruise ship visits, plus the building of a harbour support vessel facility.
In the 2014-2015 financial year Darwin saw 195 container and general cargo ships visits and 65 cruise ship calls.
