The two electric light goods vehicles and two electric forklifts will help Modern Terminals achieve its decarbonisation goals of eliminating greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2050.

“To achieve our 2030 goal, we have to identify appropriate equipment and different types of goods vehicles powered by cleaner energy that can meet our operational needs,” said Horace Lo, group managing director of Modern Terminals Limited.

“When we set our goals in September last year, there were no immediate solutions available but as a leading terminal operator in Asia, it is important for us to be part of the driving force to encourage technology advancement.”

The newly delivered electric light goods vehicles are among the first batch of non-road vehicles supported by the New Energy Transport Fund – an initiative of the Hong Kong SAR Government to encourage wider use of green transport technologies.

A self-styled pioneer in sustainability, Modern Terminals introduced two electric cars as patrol cars in 2011.
