APM takes Monrovia concession

Preferred bidder APM Terminals has won the 25-year concession for the operation of Liberia’s Port of Monrovia and now faces an investment bill of $120m over the term.

Most of the investment will be poured into construction of the quay, improving yard handling procedures and the installation of new equipment.

The deal is notable as it marks the first 100% APM Terminals-owned terminal in Africa, described as a “big milestone” for the company.

The Liberian government decided to privatise the port to meet the urgent need for improvements in infrastructure to allow it to cater for the deepsea container trades.
