BEST pioneers electrification on the quayside

This innovation is a key part of BEST’s ambitious port electrification strategy aimed at reducing its carbon footprint and enhancing sustainability in terminal operations.

By replacing diesel-powered equipment with electric alternatives, like the new reach stacker powered by lithium batteries, BEST said it is taking a major step toward decarbonising port activities and improving air quality.

The new electric reach stacker, manufactured by Sany, plays a crucial role in this transformation.

The electric reach stacker will prevent an estimated 260 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually by using renewable electricity. This move is aligned with BEST’s broader carbon reduction plan, which targets an 80% emission cut by 2030 and net-zero by 2040.

With the reach stacker now fully operational, BEST’s next step is the September introduction of On Shore Power Supply (OPS), allowing container ships to connect to 100% green electricity during port calls.

This will further solidify BEST’s position as a leader in port electrification and environmental sustainability in Southern Europe.
