Boosting Norway’s ammonia bunkering network

The company has been awarded a NOK 442 million grant from ENOVA to support the construction of three ammonia bunkering terminals, developed with partners, along the Norwegian coast.

It’s an investment marks a significant milestone in establishing ammonia as a viable zero-carbon fuel for vessels operating in coastal and offshore segments, where dedicated fuel bunkering infrastructure does not yet exist.

“This funding from ENOVA is a game-changer for the maritime industry,” said Steinar Kostøl, CEO of Azane Infrastructure AS.

“By creating the infrastructure to make ammonia fuel accessible, we are paving the way for zero-carbon shipping along the Norwegian coast and beyond.”

Bunkering infrastructure

ENOVA is a Norwegian state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Climate and Environment, providing public funding to accelerate the transition to low-emission technologies.

Its grants are designed to reduce financial risk for first-of-a-kind projects, support the development of terminal infrastructure, and enable the commercial uptake of alternative fuels such as ammonia.

The ammonia bunkering terminals will be strategically located in Florø, Stavanger and Mongstad, strengthening national fuel bunkering capacity and ensuring reliable supply for future ammonia-powered vessels.

All three facilities are targeted to be fully operational by 2029, aligning infrastructure readiness with expected market demand.

Norway has a strong track record as a first mover in alternative fuels, including LNG and other clean maritime solutions. By pioneering large-scale ammonia bunkering infrastructure, Azane Infrastructure AS aims to continue this legacy while supporting the green transition in maritime transport.

Azane Infrastructure AS, established in April 2025 as a subsidiary of Azane Fuel Solutions, is a Norwegian company dedicated to the ownership, operation and management of infrastructure for supplying ammonia as a fuel.
