De-bunkering first for Netherlands

The first de-bunkering of a LNG-powered inland waterway barge, Greenstream, has been successfully carried out at the Port of Moerkijk in the Netherlands.

Greenstream’s tanks had to be emptied ahead of a visit to the shipyard and the LNG was transferred to its sister barge, the Green Rhine.

Michael Schaap, marine advisor at Titan LNG, said: “The transfer of the LNG was completed quickly to the satisfaction and high standards of all parties involved.”

He added: “After the transfer most of the remaining methane was consumed using the engine and then the tanks were purged with Nitrogen.”

The de-bunkering was executed in close collaboration between Amulet Management & Services, Cryonorm, Titan LNG and the Port of Moerdijk with support from the Port of Rotterdam.

Greenstream was launched in 2013 as the first barge operating in Northwest Europe to be powered by LNG.
