Gothenburg Port inks energy deal

The agreements, signed on 1 July, include 25-year leases for above-ground areas and underground rock caverns, as well as a cargo port dues agreement based on traffic and volume.

The deal aims to provide both stability and predictability, supporting further investment in the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

“With a 25-year agreement, we gain long-term stability and predictability, giving us a solid foundation for developing an energy port for the future focused on transitioning from fossil to renewable products,” said Göran Eriksson, chief executive at the Port of Gothenburg.

“Having a skilled, long-term and responsible partner like Inter Terminals Sweden with us in this effort is something we see as very positive.”

Inter Terminals Sweden, a leading independent operator in liquid energy storage and logistics, has been active at the port since 1964. It is the port’s third-largest energy customer and has already begun handling renewable fuels such as FAME and HVO.

“With longer lease terms and a more transparent and predictable cost structure, we are now better positioned to scale up further,” said Johan Zettergren, managing director of Inter Terminals Sweden.

“That includes converting or building new tanks for renewable products, as well as investing in new technology and an expanded green portfolio.”
