Linde to lead Australian ammonia project

NH3 Clean Energy has appointed Linde Engineering to progress engineering, procurement and construction plans for its 650,000-tonne-per-year WAH2 clean ammonia project in Western Australia.

The development, formerly advanced under Hexagon Energy Materials, is positioned to support growing global demand for alternative fuels, with ammonia increasingly viewed as a carrier for green hydrogen production and a scalable export commodity through port infrastructure.

“Linde Engineering’s global expertise positions the WAH2 project to move forward with a strong technical and execution foundation,” the company said in a press release.

Design and planning

Under the agreement, Linde Engineering will not only lead front-end design and EPC planning but is also exploring potential involvement in construction, project ownership and long-term operations.

This expanded role reflects a broader trend among technology providers seeking integrated participation across the value chain for alternative fuels projects.

The WAH2 project is expected to leverage Western Australia’s strategic proximity to Asian markets and established port infrastructure, supporting future ammonia exports and potential bunkering applications.
