Mumbai seeks methanol supply partners

The initiative aims to position the port as a key hub for methanol bunkering, supporting the transition to cleaner fuels and enabling a reliable alternative fuel supply chain. 

A statement in the EOI reads: “Mumbai aims to emerge as a key methanol bunkering hub for international and domestic vessels,” underlining the importance of robust infrastructure and dependable alternative fuel supply in achieving this objective.

Port modernisation

The EOI outlines requirements for experienced stakeholders capable of delivering end-to-end solutions. 

Mumbai Port Authority is calling for detailed submissions that address methanol sourcing, storage, handling and transfer systems within the port.

Proposals must also demonstrate compliance with safety standards and include clear plans for integrating methanol bunkering into existing operations. The move reflects a strategic push to modernise port infrastructure while aligning with evolving fuel demands in the maritime sector.

The deadline for submission of proposals has been set on or before 19 May 2026, with the authority expected to evaluate responses based on technical capability, safety, and long-term viability.
