Pilbara Ports and Japan team up on green energy

The agreement will see the two collaborate on renewable energy and net zero efforts, sharing knowledge and expertise.

The Port of Himeji, located in western Japan, has extensive trading links with WA, importing LNG, iron ore, oil, and salt from Pilbara ports.

“The Pilbara has enormous growth potential in renewable hydrogen, ammonia and critical minerals,” said WA Premier Mark McGowan stated. “This initiative will help us to work with our Japanese trading partners to drive local jobs in the region.”

Premier McGowan is currently visiting Japan to help raise the profile of the state. Whilst there, a PPA team will visit the Harima coastline area to learn more about its carbon-neutral port concept.

“The McGowan government is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, with PPA well positioned to provide renewable energy exports to not only Australia, but across the world,” said Rita Saffioti, Ports Minister said.

“I look forward to seeing the collaboration and sharing of knowledge between the ports as we continue the transition to green energy,” the minister added.
