Paradip plugs in to shore-to-ship power

Paradip Port Authority has become the second major port in India to successfully commission its shore-to-ship power supply system, providing full load power to MV APJ INDRANI at CB-1 Berth.

This state of the art technology has opened up new opportunities for the port with regards to similar vessels shuttling between Paradip and other ports with similar OPS facilities.

“The live monitoring panel and on-site operations reflect the efficiency and safety of this advanced setup,” said Shri P L Haranadh, chairman, PPA.

”This achievement strengthens PPA’s commitment to cleaner, greener, and more energy-efficient port operations”.

Decarbonisation commitment

Shri P L Haranadh said that the success of the project was down to PPA’s dedicated electrical and mechanical engineering department.

According to the PPA’s own website, the contract for the design, engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the shore to ship power supply facility at Coal Berth-I and Berth-II was awarded on a turnkey basis to Romas Electric Private Ltd. Bengaluru in a joint venture with Danfoss Industries Pvt. Ltd.

PPA isn’t just relying on electrification though to achieve port decarbonisation, it’s also a got a firm eye on alternative fuels.

Back in October 2025 and to mark World Hydrogen day, India made clear its intention to develop its expertise in the green fuel in order to expedite the country’s energy transition.

It formally recognised three major ports as ‘Green Hydrogen Hubs’ under its National Green Hydrogen Mission – Paradip Port Authority was one of them
