Bangladesh port plan unveiled
The government of Bangladesh has announced plans to develop the countrys sea, river and land ports.
Both Chittagong and Mongla will be upgraded to attract use by neighbouring countries. A new container terminal will be built at the former and modern equipment acquired or both.
There will be new river ports at Noapara, Bhairap-Ashuganj and Barguna. Additionally, a new inland container terminal is to be established at Pangaon.
The Prime Minister noted that only 40% of the existing capacity at Chittagong and 10% at the port of Mongla are currently being used and that revenue could be doubled by boosting usage.
