Bids – again – for Columbo
Sri Lanka Ports Authority has issued a long-awaited call for bids for a container terminal in a new deep draught port being built next to the existing Colombo harbour.
Proposals have been called from international or local firms or consortia on a design, build and manage basis of the new container terminal which is being built west of the existing port.
All of Sri Lanka’s top conglomerates submitted proposals a year ago when the bids were first called, but disagreements and controversy meant the bidding round was cancelled.
The new port is designed to accommodate vessels with a length of 400 metres and 16 metre draught.
