Dawei mega-port still forging ahead
Thailand is to push on with the Dawei mega-port project in a joint venture with the Myanmar governmment.
“Following my discussions with (Myanmar) President Thein Sein in New York last week, the two sides have agreed on both a mechanism and road map for the development of Dawei,” Thailand’s Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said in comments posted on the government website.
This project will link Dawei witth Laem Chabang deep seaport on the eastern seaboard and help reduce transportation routes and cost, she added.
Many feared the project had stalled owing to costs and political instability in Myanmar.
