Haldias workers suffer after volumes decrease

Haldia Bulk Terminals has announced it is to lay off 275 workers after a slump in volumes through the port.

The consortium of LDA and ABG said it may consider hiring or outsourcing suitable additional workforce in the future if volumes increase.

However, it will look at hiring employees with a broad range of skills so that they can move between different operations as and when required.

In response, the Kolkata Port Trust expressed disappointment at the decision, which it believes may lead to “trouble” for the port.
