Base purchasing decisions on performance

Kok Choong Hwa summarises with a few key points:

1. Spreader purchasing decisions are best made through careful evaluation of performance against a series of crane spreader indicators. Spreader purchasing decisions based on spreader price are non-strategic. But, spreader purchasing decisions based on spreader performance indicators are likely to lead to a spreader fleet that will enhance terminal productivity, efficiency and profitability.

2. Performance norms need to be set in the areas of spreader productivity, downtime – planned and unplanned – and environmental efficiency.

3. Terminals need to develop a “scorecard” for spreader fleet evaluation based on norms, and work with their spreader partner – which we certainly hope will be Bromma [! ] – to make steady progress in elevating spreader fleet performance.
