DP World expands electric fleet at Jebel Ali

The expansion from 14 units in December 2024 to 146 units as of October 2025 is expected to reduce diesel consumption and cut greenhouse gas emissions by over 10%, equivalent to removing 2,255 cars from the road annually.

“By scaling our electric fleet and transitioning to cleaner energy at Jebel Ali Port, we are building future-ready and more resilient supply chains that benefit our customers and the communities we serve.”

The eITVs play a critical role in shuttling containers between quay cranes, yard stacks and gates. The upgraded fleet features 35 diesel vehicles converted to electric by DP World’s in-house engineering team, alongside over 100 new electric vehicles.

In addition to the eITVs, DP World has introduced 11 electric empty container handlers to move and stack empty containers.

With maritime transport responsible for around 3% of global transport emissions, scaling electric fleets at major hubs like Jebel Ali is a vital step toward decarbonising trade. Without such action, emissions could increase to 130% of 2008 levels by 2050, warns the UN.
