Antwerp STS orders for Kalmar
Kalmar has received an order for six (plus three options) super post-Panamax STS container cranes from a consortium led by P& O Ports Antwerp for the new Antwerp Gateway terminal at the Deurganckdok on the Schelde left bank. With an outreach of 55 metres, the high-speed cranes will be capable of handling ships over 20 containers wide.
With a total quay length of 2,500 metres on which ultimately 26 ship-to-shore cranes are projected, the terminal will have a capacity of 3.5m TEUs on its completion.
The cranes will be prepared for future tandem lift handling whereby two 40 foot containers are lifted simultaneously, side by side.
Another eight super postPanamax STS container cranes have been ordered by PSA/Hesse-Noord Natie. Six cranes are destined for Hesse-Noord Natie’s new terminal on the Scheldt left bank. With a total quay length of 2,750 metres, on which 24 ship-to-shore cranes are projected, this terminal will have a capacity of 3.75 million TEUs on its completion.
The other two cranes are destined for the Noordzeeterminal at Quay 913, where six Kalmar STS cranes are already operational.
