APS wins quay crane OCR contract
APS Technology Group (APS), provider of technology systems that identify and track containerised cargo, is to install Crane OCR systems for APM Terminals (APMT) Pier 400 facility in Los Angeles.
Once deployed, the system will automatically confirm the container load/discharge movements on each of the 14 ship-to-shore cranes in operation.
Leveraging close integration with the Siemens PLC (programmable logic controller) on each crane, the APS system monitors the cranes hoist, trolley and twist-lock information, controlling cameras mounted on the sill beam as the containers travel into view. The resulting container ID is extracted from the captured images and transmitted wirelessly via an underlying 802.11 RF network.
For the first time, data from the APS Crane OCR system will be integrated with a Position Detection System (PDS) from Sattel of Australia.
As containers are identified, the Crane OCR system ‘hands off ‘ the ID to the Sattel system, which associates it to the ID of the DSequipped receiving truck under the crane. Sattel then forwards all data to the NAVIS SPARCS planning system for validation versus the load/discharge lists.
