Breakwater construction sees by sonar

The area is exposed to extreme conditions which have been known to produce waves up to 24 metres in height, creating extremely poor visibility.

CodaOctopus’ specialist equipment was employed to build the breakwater, part of a project to add significant space and improve facilities at the port.

The Echoscope system was used since it produces instantaneous three-dimensional sonar images and, mounted on a specially-designed crane, the operators were able to align the four-metre blocks precisely even in zero-visibility water.
