Height and illumination first for LEDs

Lighting specialist AAA-LUX has fitted LED floodlights at a 45 metre height at the Rietlanden terminal in the port of Amsterdam, delivering a height and illumination quality that “has never been shown before” in the port industry, according to the company.

Six AAA-LUX armatures on each of the eight posts now light the 300 000m2 Rietlanden terminal.

A particular challenge for the terminal was overcoming the shadows cast by large coal stockpiles. AA-LUX said that it overcame that through the use of the best components available and by developing the lenses itself.

“The washing bay and parking areas are now also illuminated by LED floodlights. Our next step is to phase out conventional floodlight and have them replaced by LED floodlights,” said Jeroen van Bakkum, operational director of Rietlanden.

“Our staff is extremely happy with the new lights as it illuminates the area much better and improves their alertness as it results in less fatigue. We, therefore, will continue to invest in more LED floodlights for economic reasons but also to improve employee satisfaction.”
