HHLA and Kalmar strengthen relationship
German logistics and transport firm Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) is to take delivery of 10 new Kalmar straddle carriers at the biggest container handling facility in the Port of Hamburg — HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB).
The order, booked in Kalmar parent company Cargotec’s Q3 2018 order intake and scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of next year, brings the amount of Kalmar straddle carriers ordered by HHLA in the past two years to a total of 30.
The order is made up of nine Kalmar straddle carriers, which have diesel-electric powertrains, and one Kalmar hybrid straddle carrier, which features a maintenance-free regenerative energy system.
The products will be used to transport containers from ship-to-shore cranes to automatic stacking cranes (ASCs).
All ten machines will feature new robust mobile drives, a redesigned electrical system for the upper frame and spreader, a more-spacious electric cabinet layout and LED working lights as standard.
According to a release from the company, the complete electrical and technical redesign brings a massive variety of benefits for terminals that use straddle carriers for container handling, with boosted reliability and productivity the most significant.
