Belfast to host SOS
The Sustainable Ocean Summit (SOS), billed as the first international, cross-sectoral business conference on ocean sustainability, takes place 15-17 June in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The organisers point out that more than 70% of the earth’s surface is covered by ocean, making it all the more imperative that industry should address environmental issues in the interconnected global marine ecosystem. The aim of SOS is to bring together “corporate ocean responsibility” leaders to tackle an ambitious programme on shared marine environmental challenges. A growing number and range of industries share the World Ocean Council (WOC) vision of a healthy and productive global ocean and its sustainable use and stewardship by responsible companies. They are joining this unique international business leadership alliance on ocean sustainability and are calling on others to participate in the WOC and the SOS.
