Energy innovation at Marseille Fos

The port made progress in several energy sector projects during last year, the first in these was the 12,000 hectare PIICTO innovation platform which launched the pilot stage of Jupiter 1000.

This project was formed by the port authority and energy sector companies in the Fos Industrial Zone, Jupiter 1000 converts wind-generated electricity to gas and is said to be the first Power to Gas project in the French transmission network.

The Port also hosed the Vasco2 research project which was in charge of validating procedures for producing biofuels. As well as opening the first truck-dedicated natural gas filling station in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region.

Traffic in 2017 is forecast to rise by 2.2% while investments are set for an 18% increase to €65m. This budget features a provision of €6.7m to upgrade the international ferry terminal.
