Environment high on EuDA agenda
The European Dredging Association (EuDA) is an industry grouping of all the leading European dredging companies and their national federations situated in the political heart of Brussels.
The European dredging companies represent approximately 8.000 European employees “on land and on board of the vessels” (in direct employment) and more than 30.000 in indirect employment (supply and service companies). Approximately 750 seaworthy vessels with European fl ag are servicing the ports and maritime channels worldwide. Founded in 1993, EuDA serves its members in all kind of requests related to dredging issues, presently strongly emphasising on the Social and Environmental affairs. These issues are followed and organised by the Secretariat and executed by its specialised working groups existing out of experts from the member companies. Wouter Dirks is Chairman EuDA Environment Committee. “The EuDA Environmental Committee focuses on a number of key issues,” he says. These include: Waste Directive, Water Framework Directive, Marine Strategy and Maritime Policy. Air Emissions, Ship Dismantling and Ports Policy are topics which are on the environmental agenda.” EuDA is one of the approx. 800 Trade Associations based in Brussels. On the above mentioned files, it has among other, a working relation with ECSA (European Community Ship owners’ Associations and with ESPO (European Seaports Association).
