Environmental partnership

The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) and Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) have drawn up a common roadmap to work in a coordinated manner in key port areas such as the fight against climate change and decarbonisation, the use of renewable energy, digital transformation, mobility and equality plans.

Aurelio Martínez, president of the PAV, and Jens Meier, president of the HPA and vice-president of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), held a working meeting in Valencia. They aim to position the ports to become benchmarks in sustainability and digitisation, advancing in the 2030 commitments of the European agenda.

The meeting served to analyse the work being carried out through the IAPH in areas where the two ports are actively involved, such as energy, resilience and data, and the progress of the World Ports Climate Action Program of which they form part of, together with 10 other ports.

Meier spent time learning about Valenciaport’s key projects, including the north container terminal, the public passenger terminal and the new multipurpose terminal of Sagunto.

Valenciaport’s 2030 zero-emissions initiatives were also explained. These include the installation of photovoltaic or wind energy, the construction of the electrical substation and hydrogen projects.
