Priority for electric trucks at Gothenburg

APM Terminals has made the decision to incentivise haulage firms to run their vehicle fleets more sustainably and ensure a more efficient passage through the terminal – important for electric vehicles with limited ranges.

“We’re seeing more and more haulage firms starting to electrify parts of their vehicle fleets, and we know that more are considering investing in a green transition of heavy goods traffic,” said Brian Bitsch, commercial manager at APM Terminals Gothenburg.

“We hope that supporting these initiatives by offering the fastest possible passage and handling will serve as an incentive and be one small step along the way.”

Around 1,000 trucks pass through APM Terminals Gothenburg daily but only a small fraction is electric. This is set to change when logistics company DFDS begins deploying 20 electric trucks on 3 March. Similarly Sweden’s biggest road container transporter, Skaraslättens Transport, recently added three electric trucks to its fleet at the terminal, with plans for two more in May.

Including APM Terminals’ priority measures, there are now three terminals that have a priority system in place for electric trucks. Between them these terminals handle around 90% of the port’s total truck flows. The other two are operated by Gothenburg Roro Terminal and Stena Line.
