Scottish shorepower project wins award

Attended by over 240 guests, the awards honour key contributors to Scotland’s renewable energy sector. Aberdeen’s recognition highlights its ambitious £4 million investment in shorepower, a UK first targeting Scope 3 emissions from client vessels.

“This award is a tribute to the collective effort of our outstanding team at port,” said Bob Sanguinetti, chief executive at the Port of Aberdeen. “It underlines the positive impact the port is making in the region, both now and for future generations.”

The shorepower initiative enables vessels to plug into clean electricity while docked, significantly reducing emissions and supporting clients in meeting their own sustainability targets. As part of the port’s strategic net zero vision, the project is central to its goal of becoming the UK’s first net zero port by 2040.

“Port of Aberdeen is proud to be setting the standard for maritime decarbonisation in the UK,” Sanguinetti added. “We are committed to sustainable growth and determined to lead the way.”

The award reinforces the port’s growing reputation as a key player in the global energy transition and a catalyst for green innovation across the maritime and energy supply chains.
