APM to boost Algeciras box lifting capability?
APM Terminals is to spend € 48m this year on new equipment for its Algeciras container terminal. The Argentinean manufacturer IMPSA will supply three super post-Panamax gantry cranes for delivery in July, while ZPMC is scheduled to deliver a further two in 2007 as part of an order totalling € 28m. With an outreach of 62.5m, these cranes will be the largest in the world.
RMS will now have operations in five ports on the Humber and will be able to provide services to clients through handling larger ships with cargoes of up to 30,000 tonnes.
ZPMC has also been awarded a €20m contract to deliver 20 RTGs, of which 17 will be put into service in September and the rest by the end of the year. These will have a stacking capacity of six plus one containers wide and one-over-six high.
During the current year, 40 terminal tractors will also be acquired.
