Black Sea container growth

The largest increases were in Ukraine and Romania. By the end of September 2016, Ukraine, Romania, Russia and Bulgaria achieved 32.52%, 7.11%, 5.68% and 4.37% growth of laden container turnover respectively, while Georgia suffered a 15.25% decrease.

During this period, 50.96% of full containers were imported, and 49.04% exported. According to the review, export volumes from the aforementioned countries increased by 13.83% compared withthe first nine months of 2015. Ukraine achieved the highest export volume increase at 31.89%, followed by Russia with 27.58%. In Georgia and Bulgaria, there were decreases of 18.2% and 0.9% respectively.

Imports to the region increased by 5.89%, mostly due to an increase in Ukrainian import volumes. There was also an increase of laden import volume in all countries in the region except Georgia and Russia.

The top five container terminals of the region changed positions with regard to total volumes handled. DPW Constanta was still in first place. HPC Ukraine, however, overcame APMT Poti and became the second largest terminal in the Black Sea, while APMT Poti moved into third place, NUTEP Novorossiysk into fourth and NLE Novorossyisk into fifth.
