GreenPort Congress and Cruise 2017

This year’s programmes are designed to be involving and interactive for all participants and will equip them with knowledge and practical information on reducing emissions and footprints together with sustainability recommendations.

In keeping with the theme creating partnerships for sustainable development, this year’s host, the Port of Amsterdam, believes that nowadays issues are too complex to fix on its own, therefore it actively seeks dialogue and partnerships with customers, civil society organisations, knowledge institutes and authorities to promote sustainable growth.

The programme for the conference reflects this with major topics up for discussion including Port-City Integration.

Some of the talks under this umbrella include a talk by Malte Siegert, head of environmental policy, NABU, on ‘Port-City Relations in a changing world of production and transport.’

Sustainability reporting will also be hot on the agenda with Claire Bryant, managing director, Future Proof Solutions and Dickon Howell, managing director, Howell Marine Consulting.

Another focus will be on creating the port of the future which will include a talk by Kris Fumberger, Sustainability Manager, RightShip, on the ‘Maritime Emissions Portal: creating visibility & accountability.’

New for this year will be an interactive public meeting role play session where participants will take on opposing roles to their current job function with the aim of giving delegates the opportunity to interact and gain experience of the decision-making process involved in the sustainable development of a port.

At the end of this ‘public meeting’, the Congress participants/local stakeholders will vote on the key issues and the outcomes will be discussed.

GreenPort Cruise presentations will include ‘Stakeholder initiatives for sustainable growth of cruise ports’ by Stavros Hatzakos, general manager, Port of Piraeus.

While Jordi Villa, head of environmental affairs, Port of Barcelona will look at creating a Mediterranean LNG cruise port hub.

Another hot topic for discussion will be on port reception facilities and getting the buy in from all port users, with Marco Digioia, government affairs director, CLIA Europe.
