Green recognition for Drydocks World

The initiative won the excellence award during the 2015 Middle East Electricity Awards and the shipyard said it recognises the awareness of the importance of providing a safe and secure environment and ensuring the health of employees throughout the organisation.

HE Khamis Juma Buamim, chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World, said: “We are proud and pleased that our initiative “Zero Harm” has won this prestigious award. It is our top priority to provide full support to the achievement of sustainable practices, using modern methods for the preservation of our workforce and the environment.”

The “Zero Harm” initiative means that Drydocks World and Maritime World follow a unique system of hazard identification, intervention and reporting that aims to involve every employee as a new pair of vigilant eyes on the site.

It aims to minimise air pollution which is being helped along by the use of Chariot Robotics Envirobots – a state of the art automated system for surface preparation at the yard.

The robotic operating facilities clean and remove heavy duty marine and industrial coatings by employing high pressure water to strip coatings and uses a vacuum system to collect the paint for safe disposal.

Drydocks World has completed DolWin beta the world’s largest HVDC Offshore Wind Platform which took a total of 3 million man hours. It has also just built the world’s largest turret for first Shell’s pioneering Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility.
