Ashdod South Port ahead of schedule
Israel Port Company has confirmed that it is five months ahead of schedule in construction for a new port adjacent to existing Ashdod Port.
China Harbour Engineering Company unit PMEC is responsible for the construction of the new South Port, which is due to start operations in 2021.
A wave breaker of 400 metres has been finished and another of the same length is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
In a tour of the construction site, Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz said that he does not expect the new port to put the Ashdod Port out of business. Ashdod Portis also investing in investment to ensure that it can compete with the new private port, which will be able to service 18,000 teu ships.
