Australia focus on future infrastructure
An advisory panel has been set up to guide the Australian Government on infrastructure investment plans through to 2100.
Infrastructure and Transport Minister Darren Chester has appointed three high-profile transport leaders – Marika Calfas, chief executive of NSW Ports; Maurice James, managing director of Qube; and Nicole Lockwood, principal of Lockwood Advisory and a board member of Infrastructure Australia – to help deliver a National Freight and Supply Chain strategy. The aim is to make long-term infrastructure decisions that will reduce congestion, improve productivity and create jobs.
In addition, the government has set up a related inquiry into freight and supply chain productivity. It will draw on existing research including the National Ports Strategy, National Land Freight Strategy and current state and territory freight/port strategies and plans.
The inquiry will help develop the evidence base for the advisory panel to deliver the national strategy. Its draft is expected later this year with the final report due in early 2018.
