Australian dockers target DP World

A series of 24-hour strikes has been called by the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) in protest against DP Worlds refusal to grant a 5% pay increase and also improve working conditions.

One union representative has accused the company of “unacceptable safety practices”.

Strikes have affected Freemantle, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

In contrast, the MUA has reached an in principle agreement with Australia’s other major stevedoring company, Patrick’s.
