Australian infrastructure priority list published
Infrastructure Australia has released a priority list for freight infrastructure investment, which includes improved rail links to the ports of Botany and Brisbane.
The independent statutory body provides research and advice on the projects and reforms Australia needs to develop key infrastructure, and it has underlined the need for freight-related investment.
Its 2018 Infrastructure Priority List includes a Sydney Gateway connecting WestConnex (a 33-kilometre predominately underground motorway scheme currently under construction in Sydney) to Port Botany, a duplication of freight rail lines at Port Botany to boost port efficiency, and a dedicated freight rail connection to the Port of Brisbane.
ALC managing director Michael Kilgariff said the release of the priority list comes at a crucial moment, as Australia continues to develop its National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy.
“Securing investment in these priority projects will be critical in allowing Australia to meet its growing freight task, and driving economic and employment growth,” Mr Kilgariff said.
