Darwin slapped with pollution fine

Darwin Port has been fined A$69,000 (US$67,200) for infringing environmental regulations.

The port was prosecuted by the Northern Territory Department of Environment for releasing polluted storm water into Darwin Harbour.

The incident occurred during ship loading when bulk minerals such as iron ore, manganese ore and copper concentrate were washed through a storm water drain.
