The Energy Efficiency Award will be presented to the ship considered to have made the greatest contribution towards energy efficiency. The three nominees with ABB systems onboard are Viking Line’s Viking Grace, CMA CGM’s Marco Polo and Myklebusthaug Management’s Dina Star.

The world’s first LNG fuelled passenger ship, the Viking Grace’s complete electrical power plant and propulsions system were supplied by ABB. It also features ABB’s energy management system, EMMA, which helps manage energy related processes, practices and decisions on the new ferry to use fuel more efficiently during operation.

Myklebusthaug Management’s Dina Star also features ABB’s EMMA system and is the first ship to feature its Onboard DC grid systems, which offers up to 20% fuel savings, saved space and improved dynamic response.

CMA CMG’s Marco Polo has been equipped with ABB’s advisory system, OCTOPUS for motion forecast and monitoring and heavy weather decision support. The system analyses wave measurements, weather forecasts, navigation data and the voyage plan, along with ship characteristics, loading conditions and motion sensor measurements, to advise crew on optimal route planning, speed and fuel consumption in all weather conditions.
